Colostrum , or colostrum, is the first food of every mammal. It provides newborns with not only essential nutrients, but also immunologically active compounds. The immunostimulating properties of colostrum are widely used in the prevention and treatment of diseases of infants and children, as well as adults.
Bovine colostrum (Colostrum bovinum) is a secretion of the mammary gland of cows produced for about the first six days after birth, but its production begins as early as three weeks before calving. It is a source of easily digestible and easily absorbable nutrients.
