Berberine is an alkaloid of plant origin, classified in the class of protoberberines. Its sources are, among others: barberry, Chinese tincture, goldenseal. It is obtained from the root, leaves, fruit and bark of plants . Berberine lowers blood sugar levels and helps maintain a healthy body weight . Longer use of berberine is associated with the accumulation of the alkaloid in the body. The addition of a standardized milk thistle extract helps to cleanse the body  and contributes to the  detoxification of the liver . Berberine has a hypoglycaemic and lipid-lowering effect.
