Antioxidants are a group of chemical compounds, which have the ability to inhibit or delay oxidation processes in the human body. These are substances, which task is to reduce oxidative stress and neutralize free radicals and reactive oxygen species.
Some antioxidants occur naturally in the human body and are called endogenous antioxidants, and some must be delivered to the body from outside - along with food or dietary supplements, which is why they are referred to as exogenous antioxidants.
Antioxidants are found in food, primarily in fresh fruit and vegetables, but also in products such as green tea, cereal sprouts or dry legume seeds. These are substances, which include compounds such as quercetin, coenzyme Q10, lycopene, vitamin C or beta-carotene.
